Grooves; Cut or Pressed

Shhhh!

We are working on something special!

In the meantime, The only people currently making vinyl on the African continent are Contour Vinyl, they are a lathe cutting collective from JHB South Africa. We make some of their 12" packagings, and encourage anyone looking for a small run of vinyl to call them up! More details below.

If you would like to know more (about our super secret plan) please feel free to get in contact with us, we will be happy to drop some hints, and it is always great to hear from anyone interested in vinyl!

Why is it that so few local bands sell vinyl? Simply put, it is very expensive! Usually, artists need to do large runs in order to manufacture vinyl at a low enough Rand/Unit to resell for profit. Typically this leaves a large barrier of entry to the market. Here at BG we don't like these barriers to entry, so we are working on a special secret plan to fix this.

Contour Vinyl is a lathe cutting collective based in Johannesburg, South Africa. They hand cut 7", 10" and 12" records for artists who would like to have their music on vinyl but do not need hundreds of copies. Lathe cutting is an artisanal process best suited to runs of between 1-50 units. Lathe cuts are perfect for up-and-coming musicians or established artists who would like to create collectible, limited edition releases. For more on their work and lathe cutting, check out their website here.

Want to give away some signed singles at your next gig? Need 10 white labels of your latest track to give to DJs? Have an idea for a novel gift? Have a look at their quote generator and then get in touch to arrange a test cut.
